In just a few years since the first vintage, winemaker Steve Bird has brought Thornbury up to the top ten list for composite ratings. The winery is listed as being in the Bay of Plenty but the vineyard plantings are well placed at Gimblett Gravels in Hawke's Bay for Bordeaux reds and the Waihopai Valley in Marlborough for whites and Pinot Noir. As all the new vineyards come on line, Thornbury is poised to be a significant brand.
